NYAPT is proud to announce our 2017-2018 series of on-line workshops for transportation office personnel including directors, dispatchers, support staff, supervisors, and driver trainers. 

As a member of NYAPT, you may elect to participate by yourself or with your entire team for one low price of $150.00 for the year! 

These sessions are live and interactive, but will also be recorded.
Recorded versions of the webinars will be made available shortly after each session.  So if your day forces you to miss the session, you can listen in at your own convenience.

NOTE that some of the sessions will be single-presenter webinars while several will be small panel webinars with school transportation professionals serving as panelists!

Descriptions of Sessions:

Your Second Brain
At a one of the nation’s prestigious law firms that have a saying.  A long memory is not as good as a short pencil.  No matter how good your memory, it is going to fall short in a department as dynamic as transportation.  In this session, we will explore both low and high tech ways to keep track of the many matters that confront us every day.   Additionally, we will look at ways to collaborate with colleagues within the transportation department to share information.     

Effective Business Writing

This session will be facilitated by a school communications professional who will provide you with tips on how to write effective letters, memo, e-mails and other professional documents like manuals.  The focus will be on writing that is clear and concise.   Most common errors will also be explored.

The Challenges of Change
One constant in education is that things change and in the future the pace of change is likely to be even greater.  In this session strategies for helping yourself and members of your team better plan for and take ownership of change so that things run as smoothly and less emotionally painful as possible.  This will include very practical tips and strategies.   Additionally, we will explore compassionate but focused approaches to help those individuals who have the most difficulty handling change.  

Understanding Myself & Others thru the Study of Personality Type

While each of us is a unique individual, 18 Century Swiss psychiatrist and psychoanalyst Carl Jung, did some groundbreaking work in identifying categories of personality types.  His work led to the development of many self-assessment tools.  We will send you one to complete in advance and then discuss each type and how types interact with each other.  While personality type is not destiny, an understanding of how others see the world can help us to resolve conflicts, leverage differences and structure our appeals.

Basic Analysis
While tools like Excel are great they are of little use without an understanding of basic analysis that are essential in planning, budgeting and presenting results.  While the word Mathematics strikes fear in the hearts of some, we promise this will be simple, very practical and will not involve having to do any arithmetic.  No prior knowledge is assumed.  More experienced hands will learn some cool tricks to save time.

Panel:  Working in a Large Transportation Department
In our last series, we did a panel on working in a small rural school district.  This panel will explore the challenges of working in a large transportation department.

Difficult Conversations
As members of the transportation office team there are many occasions where you are going to need to have a difficult conversation with someone either in your department or with other district stakeholders.  This session will explore best approaches to have to keep the conversations focused and respectful while at the same time getting your important point across or defending your appropriate actions.

>> No phone cancellations will be accepted (emails can be accepted)
>> Refunds can be made ONLY on cancellations received before date above.  NO Refunds will be made after that date. 
>> NO-SHOWS will be billed.
