2018 ADVOCACY DAY
One of NYAPT's key legislative priorities is passage of legislation that allows school buses to be equipped with Stop Arm Cameras that can be used to ticket motorists who illegally pass stopped school buses.
This year, we had a good thing happen when the Governor included provisions in his budget proposal to accomplish this. Due to a number of factors, the Legislature did not include those provisions in the final budget. We are now working on building on the information and discussions we had in the budget season to get the stand-alone bill passed during the remaining 3 months of the session.
We will hold a Lobby and Advocacy Day on May 8th at the Legislative Office Building on State Street in Albany. The day will begin at 8:00 AM with set-up and continental breakfast for our attendees and exhibitors. We are working with the "LOB" on AV, internet, and electrical power issues so that we are ready for you on arrival.
This year to defray some of our costs for the day, we are asking our exhibitors for a small registration fee of $150.00. This will afford you an opportunity to share your wares and successes with State Legislators and with the invited media. It is a fine opportunity to get your word out on this sensitive issue and help us move this beneficial legislation forward.
The bills we are supporting are S.518A by Senator Young and its companion A.321A by Assemblyman Magnarelli. If you want to produce your own flyers in support of those bills, feel free to do so.HOTEL
We will also have rooms available at the Albany Marriott
if you would like to stay overnight where our members will be lodging. Here is the information for those rooms:
